No food to post yet

But I have been reading around and surfing and things and I have a few things to report.

1. After my current bottle of Stevia I won’t be buying more. Here’s why.

2. I hate Twilight. I refuse to read the books, the movie was horrendous. I had to look up the new guy because a good friend told me she is “on team Jacob”. I love you Jill, but we have different taste in men ;-) I actually made a face when I saw his face ;-)

(and it wasn’t a smiley wink face)

3. I really wonder about raw food in the dehydrator. I had to take a class on food handling safety before I began working as a part time raw chef, and oddly enough it turned me off to raw foods. Know why? Foods (yes even produce) aren’t supposed to be left in the “danger zone” for long. The danger zone is 40°-140° F. according to the raw lifestyle, it isn’t raw if it has gone over 115°-118°F. From my vantage point foods that have been in the dehydrator for longer than 2 hours aren’t exactly “safe” to eat. Then again there are a lot of foods that raw foodists eat that aren’t safe to eat raw anyway (like garbanzo beans and most mushrooms just to name 2). So I am a tad concerned about this stuff. I would love to hear from people who know more about dehydrating and who can tell me that the raw crackers really are safe, because they look very good. I just am not seeing how they can be at this point. Even salads are supposed to be kept under 40° F. or consumed within 2 hours of being at room temp.

4. I really, really need an apron.

5. I have an hour left of work and I wish it would go by a lot faster. I think a cup of tea is in order!

That’s it really ;-) It’s very cold here and I am wearing a skirt and tights like an idiot. I should be wearing a ski suit. BRRRRRRR!

Bring on the weekend!

  1. I’m not a fan of the Twilight book, but Robert Pattinson makes me SWOON! ;)

  2. Haha I love VeggieGirl’s comment. Twilight is an amazing character study, especially from a feminist point of view. It’s crazy! I’m only on Team Jacob because he’s not a crazy stalker/abuser like Edward, but I’ll keep the Twilight talk out of here.

That stevia article is scary stuff. You use xylitol, right? I need to find a new sweetner. I’m okay with agave but with the amount of tea I drink (and the fact that I like it sweet) means that I’d be consuming tons of it, and I really like to save it for my “dessert” tea or something.

Anthropologie has the cutest aprons! I’m sure there’s tons of awesome ones on Etsy too and that would be better, but Anthro’s make me drool.

  3. love our email interchange today and totally am on board with your stevia thoughts. i need to get more into date, coconut sugar, xylitol, etc.

And the Twilight thing…toatlly over my head as i swear i never read/watch anything anymore that’s not blog related. it’s a bit sick, i need to cut back in the b’sphere a little!

  4. Hunh – I thought that Stevia article was rather unconvincing, but then again I just took a homeopathic hangover pill that was made from the same tree that strychnine is made from. I mean really, how much Stevia would you have to eat for it to maybe be bad? Pounds a day? It’s clear none of us are going to do that.

Have you heard of people getting sick from raw dehydrated crackers? God knows I’ve probably eaten a lot of “unsafe” foods without an effect. Does that still make them unsafe?

    Just don’t worry yourself sick.

PS. And you know I think Twilight is the biggest piece of trash perpetrated on the masses so we need to discuss vampires no further.

  5. I’m also unconvinced by the stevia article. It seems to be saying, “The FDA is a reliable organization [snort] and since it prefers artificial sweeteners and the corporations that produce them above this herbal extract, stevia must be really bad.” I don’t disagree that stevia could become a significant problem if people start downing it the same way they do with other “diet” beverages, but I don’t use it that way. I use 2-3 drops a WEEK. So I’m not worried.

Twilight is such a racket. I must vomit in its general direction.

I, too, need an awesome handmade adorable retro tongue-in-cheek-at-my-feminist-domesticity apron. :)

  6. Wow i didnt know that about stevia. Im going to start trying to get away from it and using more natural sweetners to sweeten my things.

If your looking to buy an apron the flirty aprons company has a bunch of super cute ones! They are gorgeous!
