We had our Christmas dinner. Matt and I were both with our respective families for the holiday, so we didn’t get to have our Christmas until the 30th. I love to celebrate, so personally I am a big fan of actually using the full 12 days of Christmas to stretch out the party. I don’t think of taking my tree down until after the 6th, and I revel in this time with glutinous joy.
I was also really excited for Matt to open his presents. But we will get to that in due time.
For dinner I did buy a Field Roast Meatloaf, and I apologize to those who cannot eat gluten due to allergies, but it was delicious. As I have said before, I don’t have gluten sensitivity, but I don’t believe it does anyone any real good health wise. I am a huge fan of Field Roast products though, and this meatloaf was absolutely incredible. I didn’t even put ketchup on it. Also! Apparently my cat Druid loves Field Roast as well because he was climbing ALL over me while I ate and wouldn’t stop until I gave him a bite. He licked it clean of flavor and then walked away. I felt a little bit cheated out of that last bite.
I also used some of my rosemary salt from Ellie Blue Bell Designs to sprinkle over roasted sunchoke slices. Delicious! I added a little extra rosemary, olive oil, and some black pepper and roasted those babies in a 400 oven for about 20 minutes or until they began to brown. We also had roasted mushrooms, garlic, and broccoli and it was all very satisfying for a Christmas dinner.
I let Matt take home all the leftovers as he was so unbelievable generous (we’ll get to the big news), and he also has no food in his house yet. Unlike me who had to go shopping the day after I returned. I cannot survive on things that can be stored in a fridge for a week and a half.
So, after we stuffed ourselves we went to unwrapping our gifts. I got Matt 4 pint glasses that say “Matin Taverna” or “Matt’s Tavern” in Finnish (He is a Fin after all). The new Family Guy Star Wars on Blue Ray, an out of print book on his favorite Poet, A T-shirt from Threadless, and another book written by his other favorite poet (who has now become mine as well).
He seemed to really like his gifts which to me is gift enough. But no, he is way more generous than that. He has heard me go on and on about something for the past year, and I was planning on eventually buying it for myself. I actually just figured out a way to budget (not really, but I got some Christmas money from family members and I was going to use it). But to my jubilation I opened up my present and saw this:
I cannot contain myself!
That's my baby!
My face still hurts I was grinning so much!
He absolutely amazes me. I feel so lucky to have such a thoughtful and generous boyfriend in my life. I apologize for the gushing here, but I am still in shock over this!
I also have to send out a huge THANK YOU to Heather for sending me some Jocalat bars to try. I hadn’t even heard of the Chocolate orange flavor! I cannot say it is my favorite either (I am partial to the chocolate mint personally), but it was great to try them out! The German Chocolate are good, but I am not going to say they taste like the real thing ;-)
I know it’s a little past time, but Happy New Year everyone!

PS. Finally went to Chaco Canyon today. Yum!
Marissa, congrats on the Vita!!!!!!!! That’s the one I have, I’ve had it for about 15-18 mos, and seriously, it has changed my life. You are already a fabulous cook, but I credit my VitaMix, my food allergies, and my CSA with being the 3 things that revolutionized my cooking, eating and love for creaing new recipes. You will adore it!
I have never even had thos Lara Joco’s. I see them all the time maybe i should try them.
And my hubs understood my $$ purchase when i started rockin out amazing food in my Vita b/c contrary to what society tells us, the true way to a man’s heart is thru his stomach :) happy cooking Marissa!
Ahhhh yay! Congratulations on getting a vitamix :)
So jealous of your amazing meal (I can’t find sunchokes ANYWHERE!!!) AND your Vita-Mix. Can’t wait to see what you whip up (literally) in that thing.
I haven’t found anyone who loves the orange ones. I still have about 8 left – I’m thinking of throwing them all in the food processor, adding some fun things (maybe dried cherries and more nuts?) and seeing what happens.
